About the University of Calabar

The University of Calabar is a university situated in Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria. It is one of Nigeria’s second generation federal universities.

The University of Calabar was a campus of the University of Nigeria until 1975. It was established by decree to fulfil this traditional mandate, its motto “Knowledge for Service”.

Its mission is to produce high-quality graduates and scholars in focal areas of learning with theoretical, practical and entrepreneurial skills for the world of work in a conducive environment through quality research and teaching.

Academic Gowns

Gowns to be obtained from the Faculty Officers of relevant Faculties on the payment of a deposit of N4,000.00. A refund of N1,000.00 will be made on the return of the gowns.

Gowns not returned by April 31, 2025, will attract a fine of N1,000,00 per day.

For Graduate School graduands, the following will apply:

• Outright purchase of Academic Gowns:
  1. Ph.D = 59,500.00 each
  2. Masters = N30,000.00 each
• Hiring of Graduate Gowns:
  1. PGD = N12,500.00

Please note that all academic gowns hired from the Graduate School must be returned within seven (7) days from the date of the convocation. Defaulters will be sanctioned as appropriate. 

INVITATION CARDS TO PARENTS/GUARDIANS: Two invitation cards will be issued to every Graduand by the Faculty Officers. Each Graduand is therefore entitled to two guests only.

Procession

The Convocation Procession will adhere strictly to the Keffi Protocol for the conduct of Convocation. Graduands should robe and join the procession in their various Faculties.

Graduands who do not robe will not be allowed into the convocation grounds. Photographers will not be allowed at the procession. All photographs will be taken after the convocation.

PRIZES AND AWARDS: Prizes and Awards will be announced during the convocation. Recipients will collect their awards/prize value on the presentation of a letter of the award at the University Bursary.

ALUMNI MEMBERSHIP REGISTRATION: Graduands will be expected to complete registration forms for alumni membership from their Faculty Officers and pay the membership registration fee.

– DAY 1: TUESDAY, 23RD MARCH, 2025:

Event: Press Conference by the Vice-Chancellor

Venue: Council Chamber

Time: 10.00 a.m. 

– DAY 2: WEDNESDAY, 24TH MARCH, 2025:

Event: Inter-Denominational Service 

Venue: Unical International Conference Centre 

Time: 10.00 a.m. 

– DAY 3: THURSDAY, 25TH MARCH, 2025:

Event: Research Fair and Exhibitions  

Venue: Tennis Court   

Time: 10.00 a.m.

– DAY 4: FRIDAY, 26TH MARCH, 2025:

Event: Convocation Lecture  

Topic: “The National Question and the Challenges of Nationhood in Nigeria”.  

Convocation Lecturer: HE Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi,  Minister of Transport 

Venue: Unical International Conference Centre

Time: 12.00 noon 

– DAY 5: SATURDAY, 27TH MARCH, 2025:

1st Event: Ground-Breaking Ceremony of KAM-Wire ODL Building

Time: 9.00 a.m. 

2nd Event: Convocation for the award of Diplomas/First Degrees/Higher Degrees/Conferment of Honorary Degree and Induction into Unical Alumni.

Venue: Abraham Ordia Stadium

Time: 10.00 a.m.
