This is to inform all anticipating applicants that the University of Benin (UNIBEN) list of successfully admitted students for the 2024/2025 academic session is yet to be released by the school management. This page will give you an idea of what to expect and will be updated when the admission list is released.

About University of Benin

The university of Benin was founded on November 23rd. On July, 1st 1971, the institute was accorded formal recognition as a full fledged University by the National university Commission {NUC} of Nigeria.

This accordance was done by the governor, in his Budget Speech in April 1972, the then Military Governor of Mid-Western State, Col. S. O. Ogbemudia formally announced the change of the name of the Institute of Technology from an Institute of Technology to the University of Benin (uniben). 

On the 1st of April 1975, the University at the request of the State Government was taken over by the Federal Government and became a Federal University of the federal republic of Nigeria.

Today, the University has continued to grow from strength to strength with a huge number of Faculties, Departments, Institutes, and Units. Following NUC’s directives, the University experimented with the Collegiate System in 1991-1992 and 1992-1993.

Although in the light of new developments, the University of Benin has reverted to the Faculty System except for the following:

Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Basic Medical Sciences, Institute of Child Health, which reverted to the Collegiate System in August 1999, with a Provost as its administrative head.

The following faculties are presently constituted are Agriculture, Arts, Education, Engineering, Law, Life Science, Pharmacy, Physical Science, Social Science, College of Medical Sciences (which has three Schools: Basic Medical Sciences; Dentistry and Medicine; and the Institute of Child Health).

The Renowned Uniben College of Medical Sciences

UNIBEN College of Medicine teaches medicine and awards a professional degree for physicians and surgeons. The College of Medical Sciences is made of three Schools and an Institute, namely:

School of Medicine

The School of Medicine was established in 1973, then the Faculty of Medicine to Medicine to run a 6-year Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) full-time degree program.

The first Dean of the School was Professor T. Belo-Osagie. He was the Dean from 1973–1975. With the exit of Professor T. Belo-Osagie, Professor K. Diete-Koki became the Dean of the School.

Since then, the School has had various Deans and Heads of Departments in the last 30 years. The immediate past Dean of the School was Prof. Dr. (med.) E. Oviasu while the present Dean is Professor Wilson E. Sadoh .

School of Basic Medical Science

The School of Basic Medical Science was established in December 2003, from the College of Medical Sciences and was finally launched in January 2004. The school undertakes undergraduate programs for B.Sc.

In addition, the school provides services for other schools within the college: Schools of Medicine and Dentistry as well as other Faculties in the University: Sciences and School of Pharmacy.

The School of Basic Medical Science has the following seven (7) departments: 1. Anatomy 2. Medical Biochemistry 3. Medical Laboratory Science 4. Nursing Science 5. Physiology 6. Physiotherapy 7. Radiography and Radiation Science.

School of Dentistry

The School of Dentistry coordinates courses and curricular within the College leading to the award of Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree.

The School of Dentistry, as it was known then, was established in 1976 and the first batch of students was admitted in the 1976/77 academic session.

 It was established as an integral part of the College of Medical Sciences in 1975 by an amendment to the Edict establishing the University of Benin.

In 2012, with support from the International Federation of Endodontic Associations(IFEA), donations from the University of Texas at Houston School of Dentistry, and the Owen family, Dr. Mbachan Collins Okwen BDS. (Benin), DDS., MBA. introduced regenerative endodontics and modern microscopic endodontics at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital

Last Year Updates

This is to inform all the candidates that participated in the University of Benin (UNIBEN) post UTME screening exercise that the management of the institution has released the list of candidates offered provisional admission into its various undergraduate programs for 2019/2020 academic session.

Prospective candidates can follow the below procedures to access their UNIBEN admission status.

Admission lists are names of successfully admitted applicants offered provisional admission into an institution. Admission lists are usually released by institutions after the conduct of admission screening exercise, they come in different batches: 1st Batch is (Merit List) followed by 2nd, 3rd, and other Batches.

How to Check UNIBEN Admission List

  1. Go to UNIBEN admission portal: uniben.waeup.org/login.
  2. Supply your Username and Password in the required fields.
  3. Click on Login and proceed to view your admission status.

IMPORTANT:

  • Successfully admitted candidates should log in to the JAMB website to either accept or reject the offer. Recommended:How to Reject/Accept Your Admission on JAMB CAPS.

ALTERNATIVELY; You can also access your admission status from the JAMB admission status checking portal, follow the procedure outlined below:

  1. Go jamb.org.ng/efacility.
  2. Login to your Jamb profile with your username and password.
  3. Scroll down then locate and click the ‘Check Admission Status‘ tab.
  4. Select your Exam year and Enter your registration number in the required columns.
  5. Finally, click on ‘Check Admission Status‘ to access your UNIBEN admission status.

Congratulations if your name is among the successful candidates in the admission lists of UNIBEN. If not, just wait patiently if other batches will be released.
